|Hans J. Andersen had more than profits in mind when he started his Midwestern window and door company more than 100 years ago. Hans envisioned a community that would support growth and innovation while improving the lives of everyone within that community. And he knew just how to do it: hire the best people. Expect them to do exceptional work. Treat them with respect. And share the success.
These principles remain at the heart of the Andersen Corporation where employees still strive to work together toward a common purpose. Excellence, innovation, integrity and citizenship are values that rise from these laudable principles and are certainly the foundations that make Andersen the company it is today. One that builders, designers, and homeowners prefer to work with over any other and one that employees regard as a welcoming and supportive community.
In 1903 the entire Andersen family came together to form the Andersen Lumber Company in Spring Valley, Minnesota. About a decade later, due to incredible growth, the company moved to Bayport, Minnesota, where river and railroad transportation made it easier to handle increasing demand from all over the Midwest. By 1913 operations moved again in order to accommodate 65 employees and rapidly increasing production.
The sense of community and commitment to sharing in the success of the Andersen corporation was strong, even from the beginning. The first profit sharing checks were signed in 1914 and a Benefit Club to provide paid sick leave to employees was established in 1916. In 1921 Andersen offered their first paid life insurance plans and the following year began offering paid vacation to all employees.
This dedication to employees clearly paid off because by 1929 Andersen ranked as the largest specialized window frame factory in the world. From the beginning of the depression on, Andersen held its ground and continued to innovate. Years of hard work, creative thinking and dedication led to one innovation after another.
Today Andersen Corporation is the largest window and door manufacturer in North America, employing more than 9000 people and selling products all over the world.
It’s no wonder JFK Window and Door is proud to be an Andersen Excellence Dealer.
